First announced back in January at the Galaxy S21 Samsung, Hyundai revealed on Thursday that the upcoming GV60 crossover would be the first to work with a newFangled PhoneMaker digital key – at least for GV60 owners who lived in Korea.
The digital button utilizes NFC and Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology to provide passive access drivers to their vehicles – that is, as long as your Galaxy phone is in your ownership, the vehicle will open automatically when you approach. The key can also be shared with “family and friends” according to the media release on Thursday from Hyundai, although they must have Galaxy S21 + or Ultra, Note20 Ultra, or Z folding 2 or 3 for it to function. This system is designed to run on Android 12 and then, assuming your cellphone has a UWB chip, even though it will also operate through NFC if not.
Hyundai Charts Safe Element Embedded Samsung (ESE) in terms of data protection and notes that UWB-based transmission systems are very resistant to interception, cloning or jamming. Whether the security scheme will stand out to your robbers on the head, then take your phone and your car still look. Digital key features are expected to be launched in Korea at the end of this year.
Google announced back in May planned to start offering its own digital key system – separate from what Samsung has developed – on “Choose Pixel and Galaxy Mobile” with UWB capabilities. Now we have seen UWB in the galaxy, does that mean pixels 6 can offer it too?
