Apple iPad (2021) review: Another modest updateApple iPad (2021) review: Another modest update

Apple said the basic iPad is the most popular tablet. And why not? Back in 2017, the company introduces the cheapest iPad as a budget choice for schools or people who do not need top-of-the-line specifications. This device always uses hardware that is several years old – but the Apple chip is very strong so this is not a problem. But now in the ninth generation, the form factor starts to feel stale; It was almost unchanged from the iPad Air that Apple was released back in 2013. Then again, at this price that cares?

It’s not a tablet that is meant for initial adopters like me. This is for those who want a fast and light tablet with a good view and tons of applications, without having to spend too much or consider whether the device like the iPad Pro is the future of computing. Thus, there are only a few basic questions that I want to answer with this review. If you have an old iPad, what’s new and better about this one? And if you don’t have an iPad, will this be purchased?

To make a evaluation, let’s recap what’s new about the iPad Ninth-Gen. The processor that turned it on was the A13 Bionic Apple chip, which first appeared on the iPhone 11 of 2019. It was one more new year than A12, which was powered by the iPad last year, and faster than its predecessor. Naturally, slower than a new chip that turns on the newly updated iPad water and iPad mini, but still produces more than enough horsepower for the $ 330 tablet.

I did not experience a real slowdown, whether I was multitasking between slack, writing this review on Google Documents, juggling various tabs on safari or playing Apple Arcade Games. Because this iPad has fewer RAM than the iPad Pro that I use as my daily driver, I noticed that the application needs to refresh their content more often when I am very multitasking. But everything quickly loaded and I returned on the way again in a short time.

For the use of the use of “iPad Standards” Most people – explore the web, edit photos, play games, watch movies, send movies, draw or record with Apple pencils, write emails or do documents with smart keyboard folio – A13 Bionic is more than strong enough. In fact, in our review about iPad last year, we found a device that was able to easily transcoding and export 4K videos to a 1080p clip. It’s not as fast as the iPad Pro, but it’s still faster than we expect. A13 will only help if you type people who like to encourage their hardware.

Another new thing about the iPad 2021 is that you get a double storage for the same amount of money. That means the iPad $ 329 has a 64GB of storage this year, while $ 479 is equipped with 256GB healthy. As usual, you can also add LTE connectivity to this device with an additional $ 130. (I review the 256GB model with LTE, which costs $ 609.) This change is easily evaluated: more storage is better, and it is very needed, especially on the model base. 64GB must be enough for most people, but if you want to load the iPad with the game and save a lot of films and photos to local storage, spring for 256GB models.
